My eye caught a dark form lying on the river bottom. It took me a few moments to comprehend what I had stumbled upon. Lying peacefully in the shallow waters of the river, only a few meters from shore, was a full-grown cougar. The contrast between the serenity of the scene I was witnessing and what must have played out here in the cougar’s final moments made me shiver. It was the first shiver of many, as I stripped down and waded out into the icy water to get this shot. x

Octopus have no real bones in their body, except for a tough beak made from chitin, so they can squeeze into small places when fleeing predators. They’re highly intelligent creatures and have shown to demonstrate observational learning, they’re known for escaping from their aquarium enclosures and occasionally breaking into others for a snack.

Also, captive octopi occasionally show affection to their caretakers after an extended absence.

They’re boneless puppies! <3_<3

another fun fact, if octopi in captivity get too bored they just stop eating untill they die, thats why you always see them with childrens toys in their aquariums or boxes they have to open

thats also why they try to break out to go somewhere else more interesting

Jack was employed into service for the East India Trading Company and was given command of the Wicked Wench. However, after he set free a cargo of slaves, his employer, Cutler Beckett, had Jack branded as a pirate and the Wench set aflame and sunk. After failing to rescue the Wench, Sparrow struck a bargain with the ghostly captain of the Flying Dutchman, Davy Jones, to resurrect his beloved vessel. Jones returned the ship to Jack in near perfect condition except for the permanently charred hull. This prompted Jack to rename her the Black Pearl.

Jack Sparrow just got way cooler.

This is very important information that was not made nearly clear enough in the movies o_o

This is one of my favourite pieces of information we get about Jack Sparrow. The movies only really show you the drunk, happy-go-lucky, wild pirate that everyone of us fell in love with, but there are reasons he chooses to spend his life under the intoxication of rum and sleep with every woman that crosses his path.

Captain Sparrow is a highly intelligent man, probably speaks several languages and is a very strong strategist, mathematician and astronomist (because to become a captain in that day and age you had to know your numbers and stars to be able to sail the seven seas.

He willingly and knowingly went against a order that was given him. He broke a contract with a higher instance, which could’ve been enough to just hang him, but instead he was branded as a pirate - a great shame and something that would make it impossible for him to find any other job that exactly that which the mark stands for. He simply got put on death row, instead of just killed on the spot.

Also, we all know Jack Sparrow’s father is an infamous Pirate Captain himself. Think about it. A young Jack Sparrow, refusing to become a pirate himself, instead choosing to work for ‘the good guys’ and become a proper sailor. He then finds out about the slavery and the human cargo. He decides to do the right thing and let them go, and he is punished for it by being turned into the person he never wanted to be.

He is such a complex and brilliant character, and I wish they would’ve shown this more in the movies, because I could rant about him all day❤

this was simply the most amazing moment of my life.

our first morning in Tahiti for a Billabong girls trip found us speeding across the channel in from Papeete to Moorea. Several miles off Moorea, we spotted Humpback whales and dropped the boat into idle, and slowly followed their sporadic surfacing trail. when we were within several hundred feet, we jumped in, and i raced to where we last saw the whales. Low and behold, we were met by a young but car-sized calf, who swam circles around us while investigating our strange bodies and waterhousings.

Looking down into the deep blue abyss, a larger, darker shape that was barely visible followed us as we lazily drifted in the open ocean current. after about 15 minutes, the calf dove down to the dark shape, just barely visible while easily 100 feet below us. The now two dark shapes swam parallel to us for several moments before they began their ascent, directly before us. Lo-and-Behold, it was a 65-70 foot long mother whale, who came up and surfaced within arms reach me.

I was so speechless that i honestly felt that i was paralyzed, and can truly claim this was one of the only moments i have ever struggled to take a picture. after surfacing, the two were off into the blue with just one swift flick of the tail. hands down the most spectacular moment of my life.
